Cub Corner Learning Center's Philosophy

At Cub Corner Learning Center, Inc. we strive to help foster your child's social development by providing learning materials and experiences that enable them to play with others and learn through all of their senses.  This will in turn build within a strong foundation leading to self-confidence and self-assurance for the rest of their lives.

We create an atmosphere where your child will feel loved, respected, happy, safe and secure when they are here.  We offer a variety of positive learning experiences and creative activities throughout the day.  We work with each child individually to help build their confidence and teach cooperation through work and play.  Decision making is also taught by offering a many choices for the child to make each day.  While at our center, your child's skills in the areas of self-discipline, cleanliness and communication will expand.

Classrooms:

"The Bear Corner"

Little Bears - (Babies) 6 weeks to 23 months

We provide a loving, safe and homelike environment for the children in our care.  The class schedule for those in Bear Corner is tentative.  Children are loved and cared for according to their own individual needs and to their parent's wishes.  Teachers spend their time playing with the children, rocking them, holding them, and moving them from one activity to another, just as would happen in their own home.  There are plenty of toys and equipment to keep everybody busy and learning.

Diapers are changed every 1 1/2 to 2 hours, or more often as needed.  Teachers keep a daily chart keeping track of when the children were changed.

Each child has his or her own crib or cot. Cubbies and shelf space  for personal items are also provided.

General Curriculum for Cub Corner Learing Center, Inc.:

General Curriculum at Cub Corner Learning Center

Arts and Crafts/Fine Motor Skills:

Children love to create.  At Cub Corner Learning Center, Inc., there are many opportunities to be creative in arts and crafts.  Through painting and making craft items, they learn to follow directions and use their small muscles/fine motor control while cutting, pasting and coloring.  The children feel good about what they have made when working with materials (using different paints, making collages, making holiday decorations and working with play-dough.)  They proudly take their artwork home to share with their family.

Circle Time:

Circle time is a specific group time as the children gather with their teacher in a circle on the carpet.  Activities include singing, stories, finger plays, talking about the current theme, the days of the week and the weather conditions.  The children share their interests, what they have been doing and what they are feeling.  We use this time for discussion of rules, learning, getting to know each other better, manners and taking turns.

Class Time:

During class time, the children learn readiness skills for public school.  They learn about feelings, caring, other cultures, and much, much more.

Computers:

At Cub Corner, we offer computer time.  There are popular and proven learning games available such as Hooked on Phonics, Jump Start, Leap Frog, and CD's for the children to learn and explore.

Coordination/Large Motor Skills:

Indoor and outdoor play activities including these special skills are taught: hopping, skipping, jump roping, throwing, catching, dribbling, bouncing balls, running, climbing, walking the balance beam, swinging, sliding and parachute play.  Playing with blocks, cars and truck, etc. are also included in this area.

Dramatic Play:

Small children love to role play.   At Cub Corner Learning Center, we encourage this by having well stocked Housekeeping Areas that include kitchens, babies, dress-up clothing, etc.  Items are rotated throughout the year.

Free Choice Playing:

Children learn through play.  Our center is well stocked with choices for every interest.  Throughout the day, there is time for the children to choose what they would like to do.  We offer lots of puzzles, books, games, art supplies, sensory items, etc.

Music:

During music time, children learn to enjoy singing, dancing, rhythm, and making their own music with instruments.

Science:

Children learn about plants, animals, how magnets work, gravity, cooking and more!  Science study goals include increasing the child's vocabulary and general knowledge as the children learn more about their surroundings.

Videos:

We have many videos including movies, and others with songs, letters, numbers, values (kindness, sharing, helping, friendship, etc.)

At Cub Corner Learning Center, Inc., we do our best to present a well-balanced curriculum to help enrich the life of your child.
